About the EMI Calculator

An EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed amount you pay your bank or finance company every month until a loan is repaid. Each installment covers that month's interest plus part of the principal, so the interest share is highest at the start and falls over time.

Use this calculator for home loans, auto and bike loans, personal loans or education loans from any bank in Nepal. Change the amount, interest rate and tenure to compare offers before you sign.

How to use the EMI Calculator

  1. Enter the total loan amount you plan to borrow (principal).
  2. Set the annual interest rate offered by your bank or finance company.
  3. Choose loan tenure in months or years using the toggle.
  4. Review monthly EMI, total interest, and total repayment on the right.
  5. Scroll the amortization schedule to see how each EMI splits into principal and interest.
  6. Use the year filter to jump to a specific year when the loan is long.

Formula

EMI = [P × r × (1 + r)^n] / [(1 + r)^n − 1], where P = principal, r = monthly interest rate (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100), n = tenure in months.

Tips

  • A longer tenure lowers EMI but increases total interest paid.
  • Even a 0.5% rate difference can change total interest significantly on large loans.
  • Compare multiple tenure options before signing a loan agreement.
  • Figures are estimates—confirm final EMI with your lender.

Frequently asked questions

How is EMI calculated in Nepal?

Banks in Nepal use the standard reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months. This calculator uses the same formula.

What is the EMI on a Rs 50 lakh home loan?

At 9% interest for 20 years, the EMI on Rs 50,00,000 is about Rs 44,986 per month, and you would pay about Rs 57.97 lakh in total interest. At a lower rate or shorter tenure the total interest drops sharply, so compare both.

Why does my EMI change after I take the loan?

Most loans in Nepal are on a floating rate: your rate is the bank's base rate plus a fixed premium. Banks publish their base rate regularly, and when it changes your interest rate changes too. The bank then adjusts your EMI or your remaining tenure.

Is a longer loan tenure better?

A longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but increases the total interest you pay. For example, Rs 10 lakh at 11% costs about Rs 21,742 a month over 5 years with about Rs 3.05 lakh total interest; stretching it longer reduces the EMI but adds far more interest.

Does this EMI include processing fees or insurance?

No. The result covers principal and interest only. Banks may also charge a loan processing fee, valuation fee, and require property or life insurance, so ask your lender for the full cost before signing.
